As Dr. Daniel Mowrey reported:
"More elaborate safety tests were performed by the Japanese during
their evaluation of stevia as a possible sweetening agent. Few
substances have ever yielded such consistently negative results in
toxicity trial as have stevia. Almost every toxicity test imaginable
has been performed on stevia extract (concentrate) or stevioside at
one time or another. The results are always negative. No abnormalities
in weight change, food intake, cell or membrane characteristics,
enzyme and substrate utilization, or chromosome characteristics. No
cancer, no birth defects, no acute and no chronic untoward effects.
Nothing."
Numerous studies have been done worldwide on the safety of Stevia
rebaudiana, all with positive results. It has been shown to
regulate blood glucose levels, be diabetic safe, non-carcinogenic (not
cancer producing), aid in the suffering of hypertension, along with
Hiroshima University School of Dentistry and the Purdue University
Dental Research team, stevia has been found to retard plaque on teeth
and suppress antibacterial growth.
Dr. Rebaudi started his studies of stevia in 1900, more studies by
Kober in 1915, Pomaret & Lavielle in 1935 and the list continues.
Please view some of the link below to view only a portion of the
studies completed so far on the safety of stevia, or read the quotes
given by many regarding the safety of stevia.
Yet, the American and Canadian governments still will not approve
stevia as a food additive, only as a dietary supplement. It is this
author’s personal opinion that I would be very curious to see the
toxicology reports on aspartame and sugar if put through the extensive
testing done so far on stevia.
